Bicycles at GTC - Theft Update
Bicycles are crucial to our work, as they allow our youth to run weekly deliveries of fresh produce to those families in our neighborhood who can't make it to our farm for pick up. We use them every day to get around our sites. We love our bikes! Unfortunately, last month our sheds were broken into and ALL 6 of our bicycles stolen! We need to replace our bikes, and also repair both sheds while putting into place better locking systems and a security camera. These are not costs in our budget, so we are turning to our community for help to make this happen!
1. Donate to our bike campaign! Make a gift of any size by clicking here. Our friends at River Valley Market have generously offered to match all gifts made up to $1,750! This will allow to repair our sheds, upgrade our security systems and purchase new trailer hitches and bikes. We are also happy to come talk with any group about our work if you would like to host a fundraiser to help us replace our bikes! Please contact Jess Flohr at 413.693.5340 x5 or email her at email@example.com to set something up.
2. Donate a Bike: We are looking for adult bicycles (32 - 38 inch hybrid or sturdy road bikes) in good condition with working brakes that can handle a workout on city streets. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call Ibrahim at 413-693-5340 x1 if you have a bike to donate. We ask that you do NOT drop off any bikes at our site at this time as we do not yet have a secure place to keep them. Shed repairs won't happen until later in October.
Thanks to the gifts and generosity of many, we exceeded our $20,000 fundraising goal by $7,329! We are humbled and grateful for the many contributions that made this possible. Every dollar will be invested into building the leadership of our youth, providing fresh organic produce to our community, and organizing for food justice. If you were not able to give yet but would like to, CLICK HERE to make your gift. And thank you!
SUMMER HAPPENINGS AT GTC
Summer is our busiest time, with over 25 youth bringing their amazing energy to our farm and farm store. We are buzzing! Stop by anytime we are open to get a tour and shop with us! We are open Wednesday - Saturday every week. Remember, if you use your SNAP dollars to shop with us you will get money instantly back on your card! Yes, it’s true! Free produce ($40 - $80/month depending on your family size) thanks to the HIP program for families receiving SNAP benefits! And our fruits and vegetables are locally grown, freshly picked and pesticide free!
If you visit Wednesdays after 3 pm, you will see GTC EATS!, our farm share, in full operation with youth on bikes pedaling produce to neighbors and families near and far gathering to pick up their produce. Come earlier in the day between 11 am and 1 pm on Wednesdays or Fridays through August, and our summer intern Tess, working with GTC youth, will be cooking up a delicious treat prepared with produce in the farm store.
