Thanks to you, we've surpassed our $48,000 fundraising goal in 2020!

Thanks to the amazing support of our community, we have far exceeded our original fundraising goal, raising a total of $53,406!!!

While 2020 was a challenging year for us all, we are so honored that this community has stepped up to support Gardening the Community, ensuring that we will be able to start 2021 on strong footing. As always, we have big dreams for this year, and cannot thank you enough for being a part of them! Our ENTIRE donation amount is also being matched by generous friends of GTC, making this the largest fundraising campaign in our 12-year history! You have helped to build the capacity of GTC's organization and leadership as we continue operating our youth leadership program and our winter GTC EATS! farm share, and look forward to planting and growing with you this spring.

Thank you for your generosity and belief in the power of food justice and systems change here in Springfield.
As always, we have big dreams for this year, and cannot thank you enough for being a part of them!

Help support our critical work in 2021

This year has not been one any of us imagined, but GTC remains resilient. In our 18th year, we continue to lead as one of a handful of Black-led youth farming organizations in New England, and persevered as we worked through organizational transitions and adapted to the challenges of 2020. GTC youth and staff grew delicious, pesticide-free fruits, vegetables, and herbs for our neighbors. Our Walnut St Farm Store now has an online storefront, and opened up healthy food access to hundreds of Springfield families. We were truly humbled to receive so much support this spring and summer, and once again are asking for your help to end the year strong.
Your gift today supports the work of GTC to build a more equitable, sustainable, and racially just food system and grow youth leadership this winter and into next year. Help us reach our $48,000 goal! Click here to read the full letter from Ibrahim Ali, GTC's Director of Farming and Youth Programs.

With your support, over the winter months, we will:
  • grow micro-greens and other winter cold weather crops in our greenhouse
  • keep our Community Farm Store open safely as a resource for our neighbors and those receiving HIP benefits in Springfield and beyond
  • run a 16 week long winter farm share program serving families and elders, providing low-cost farm shares to those unable to pay full price
  • respond to community members facing food emergencies
  • work with our youth to develop their critical thinking and leadership skills and learn more deeply about food and racial justice, regenerative farming, and the vegetables we grow
  • continue to adapt our youth programming, Farm Store and farm share operations, and volunteering opportunities to serve our neighbors in this challenging time

While we can't gather in person, we still want to celebrate our community and find strength in each other this harvest season. Join us to celebrate our harvest, our youth, and our work for food justice. Cook delicious meals with our farm-fresh produce boxes and share online to come together with the GTC community virtually!

Too keep everyone safe, we'll be offering farm-fresh, seasonal produce boxes for pickup at our farm store. Participants can use these boxes to cook meals with fall favorite recipes of GTC's staff or create some of your own, then share those dishes on social media to connect with other members of the GTC community! The produce boxes are also eligible for SNAP/HIP benefits.

This event is the kick-off for our fall appeal - donations will be gratefully accepted.
We will also be selling extra food and merchandise, and raffling off a GTC gift basket. Come join us!
